Why MMA is mixed on the deck

Unlike a pre-melted thermoplastic kettle, MMA resin cold plastic is a two-component system. Resin and hardener are combined immediately before trowel, screed or spray. That is why it can mark cycle tracks and arrows on a corridor that cannot host a hot plant.

Pot life is the clock you actually manage

Once catalysed, the mix has a finite pot life. Crews stage small batches, not a full shift’s volume. High ambient temperature shortens the window; cool night work lengthens it. Over-catalysing to “speed up” a shift is a common cause of brittle film and wasted material.

When can traffic return?

Ambient-cure MMA typically returns light traffic faster than solvent paint of similar film build, but it is not instant. Follow the grade datasheet for the night’s temperature and humidity. Beads, if specified, are dropped while the film can still wet them — too late and they sit as loose grit.

What to put in the method statement

Record mix ratio, batch IDs, substrate temperature and reopen time. That file is what airport and municipal QA actually audit. Full grades live on the MMA resin cold plastic product page.
