Manufacturing Process of RS 1 (Primer) Manufacturers

As trusted RS-1 primer manufacturers, YNM Safety produces cationic bitumen emulsion through a controlled colloid mill process to deliver consistent particle size, stable storage performance, and rapid setting characteristics for pothole repair and pavement priming.

01

Base Bitumen Selection

VG-10 or VG-30 paving grade bitumen is selected as the base feedstock based on the required emulsion residue and end-use specification. Each batch is tested for penetration, softening point, and ductility before entering the emulsification process.

02

Aqueous Phase Preparation

Demineralised water is blended with cationic emulsifying agents and a controlled dose of hydrochloric acid to achieve the optimal pH window. This aqueous phase carries the positive charge that defines RS-1 emulsion behaviour.

03

Bitumen Heating

The selected bitumen is heated to 130–150°C in jacketed storage tanks under continuous agitation. Temperature is closely monitored to ensure proper viscosity for colloid mill processing without thermal degradation.

04

Colloid Mill Emulsification

Heated bitumen and aqueous phase are simultaneously fed into a high-shear colloid mill operating at 3,000–6,000 rpm. The mill disperses bitumen into micron-sized droplets coated with emulsifier, producing a stable cationic emulsion.

05

Cooling & Stabilisation

The freshly produced emulsion is cooled through heat exchangers and transferred to stabilisation tanks. A controlled rest period ensures complete emulsifier adsorption and uniform particle size distribution.

06

Quality Testing

Each batch is tested for residue on sieve, Saybolt Furol viscosity, particle charge, storage stability, residue by evaporation, and water content per IS 8887. Only batches meeting all parameters are released.

07

Drum Filling & Bulk Loading

Approved RS-1 emulsion is filled into 200 kg steel drums via automated filling lines, with each drum batch-labelled and sealed. Bulk tanker loading is available for project-based supply.

08

Dispatch & Project Supply

Batches are dispatched with test certificates, MSDS, and batch traceability documents. YNM Safety supports pan-India delivery and export shipments with technical assistance for application crews.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about this product from YNM Safety—manufacturing, standards, supply, and support.

YNM Safety · RS 1 (Primer) Manufacturers
  • What is RS 1 (Primer)?

RS 1 is a Rapid Setting cationic bitumen emulsion used as a primer and tack coat for pothole repair and bituminous overlays. It breaks rapidly on contact with mineral aggregate, creating a strong bond between the existing pavement and the new patch or overlay. YNM Safety manufactures RS-1 emulsion to IS 8887 and MoRTH 503 specifications.

  • Where should RS-1 primer be used?

RS-1 is the recommended primer for pothole repair under cold mix asphalt, as a tack coat between existing bituminous layers and new overlays, and as a prime coat on WMM / WBM granular bases. It is widely used on national highways, urban roads, toll plazas, and industrial pavements.

  • How is RS-1 different from cutback bitumen?

RS-1 is water-based and cold-applied, with significantly lower VOC emissions and no solvent fire hazard. Cutback bitumen requires hazardous solvents for fluidity. RS-1 sets through emulsion breaking, not solvent evaporation, making it safer for workers and faster to traffic.

  • What is the shelf life and packing for RS-1?

RS-1 is supplied in 200 kg steel drums and bulk tankers. Shelf life is approximately 6 months when stored sealed at ambient temperature with periodic agitation. MOQ is 200 kg.

  • Does YNM Safety support export of RS-1 emulsion?

Yes. YNM Safety exports RS-1 bitumen emulsion primer across South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Share volume, port, incoterm, and any local standard requirements for a feasibility and pricing review.

  • Who is YNM Safety?

YNM Mega Industries Pvt Ltd is an Indian manufacturer and exporter of road marking paints, metal beam crash barriers, retro reflective signages, and related road safety products, based in Telangana with supply across India and 50+ countries.
